Greg Bensberg has been involved in all elements of digital broadcasting including leading the ITC’s Spectre Project which mounted the first UK trials of Digital Terrestrial Television in the early 90's, the development of the DVB transmission standard, the licensing of UK DTT services by the ITC in 1996 and 2002 (Freeview) and the development of the UK’s digital switchover strategy (when he was seconded to the government’s digital television action plan). He has worked for the ITC/Ofcom since 1992 and is currently Chairman of the Joint Planning Project (which plans and allocates spectrum for UK DTT services) and is Project Director of Ofcom’s Digital Dividend Review project which is examining the options arising from the release of spectrum afforded by digital switchover.
